SKY MobileMedia Adds Push-to-Talk Over Cellular to the SKY-MAP Platform; Integrated and OMA-Compliant SKY-PoC Simplifies Handset Development and Increases Wireless ARPU
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 10, 2005--SKY MobileMedia, Inc., a leading provider of software platforms for applications in the wireless industry, today announced the availability of the SKY-PoC™ push-to-talk over cellular solution for handsets using the SKY-MAP™ mobile applications software platform. Push-to-talk over cellular is one of the fastest growing technologies for mobile phones, due to the simple way it lets mobile phone users talk instantly to each other by pressing a button like a walkie-talkie, without having to dial a number or place a call.
"SKY is continuously extending SKY-MAP with new applications that add maximum value for our customers, and the mobile operators that support their devices," stated Richard Sfeir, CEO of SKY MobileMedia. "As our latest addition, we are pleased to offer robust push-to-talk over cellular functionality that provides the same portability across hardware platforms, reduced time to market, and compliance with OMA standards as the rest of our industry-leading SKY-MAP based mobile applications." The Push-to-talk over cellular solution developed by SKY MobileMedia complies with the OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) standards defined in OMA PoC Version 1.0.
The introduction of the SKY-PoC push-to-talk over cellular solution provides SKY's customers and partners with yet another valuable pre-integrated application that reduces time-to-market for handset manufacturers, and increases ARPU for operators deploying the SKY-MAP mobile applications platform. The SKY-PoC solution is expected to be in volume production handsets in the first quarter of 2006.
SKY-MAP consists of SKY's standards-compliant wireless middleware, pre-integrated SKY-APPS mobile applications suite, JTWI-compliant SKY-VM™ Java client, and SKY-MMI™ user interface framework. As such, SKY-MAP is a fully integrated mobile software platform that allows manufacturers and wireless operators to rapidly deploy exciting new feature phones and multimedia services that comply to industry standards. SKY-MAP has been designed from the ground-up to be a flexible, scalable, and extensible software platform for use across an entire handset portfolio - from entry level handsets, to compelling feature phones and high end multimedia terminals.
